Professional Licensure Disclosures

Osteopathic Medicine

Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (PNWU-COM) Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Program is an AOA-accredited program of study. Graduation from an AOA-COCA accredited college of osteopathic medicine is required in order to begin training in an ACGME-accredited residency program and to take the COMLEX-USA Level 3 examination. At this time, PNWU-COM has determined the DO program curriculum, as defined in 34 CFR §668.43(a)(5)(v), meets the State educational requirements for licensure in all fifty states, Guam, Puerto Rico, Washington DC, and the Virgin Islands.

PNWU-COM strongly encourages students to determine any additional requirements for licensure in the state in which they seek to be licensed. Students should refer to their state licensing bodies, as well as the Federation of State Medical Boards or Physician Licensing Service, for requirements for licensure.

Physical Therapy

Each recipient of the DPT degree must pass a standardized competency exam and fulfill the requirements of the state licensing board of the state in which they choose to practice.  These requirements may vary widely and are regulated by the laws of each state. Refer to the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy website for details.

Occupational Therapy

The developing MSOT program must be granted Candidacy Status, have a pre-accreditation review, complete an on-site evaluation, and be granted Accreditation Status before their graduates will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of the NBCOT exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.
