Professional Licensure Disclosures

Osteopathic Medicine

Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (PNWU-COM) Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Program is an AOA-accredited program of study. Graduation from an AOA-COCA accredited college of osteopathic medicine is required in order to begin training in an ACGME-accredited residency program and to take the COMLEX-USA Level 3 examination. At this time, PNWU-COM has determined the DO program curriculum, as defined in 34 CFR §668.43(a)(5)(v), meets the State educational requirements for licensure in all fifty states, Guam, Puerto Rico, Washington DC, and the Virgin Islands.

PNWU-COM strongly encourages students to determine any additional requirements for licensure in the state in which they seek to be licensed. Students should refer to their state licensing bodies, as well as the Federation of State Medical Boards or Physician Licensing Service, for requirements for licensure.

Physical Therapy

Each recipient of the DPT degree must pass a standardized competency exam and fulfill the requirements of the state licensing board of the state in which they choose to practice.  These requirements may vary widely and are regulated by the laws of each state. Refer to the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy website for details.

Occupational Therapy

The entry-level occupational therapy master’s degree program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 7501 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 510E, Bethesda, MD 20814. ACOTE’s telephone number c/o AOTA is (301) 652- AOTA and its web address is www.acoteonline.org. Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. A felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure

Dental Medicine

Each recipient of the DMD degree must fulfill the requirements of the state licensing board of the state in which the dentist chooses to practice. PNWU-SDM does not, expressly or implicitly, guarantee a license to practice dentistry upon admission to or graduation from PNWU-SDM. Licensure is the exclusive right and responsibility of the State Boards or Dentistry in each state. Individual state licensure requirements vary greatly. To be licensed in the State of Washington, students must successfully complete an appropriate regional licensing examination. Students must satisfy the requirements of each state’s regulatory body independent of any school requirements for graduation. Professional licensure disclosure is accessible via American Dental Association website at https://www.ada.org/resources/careers/licensure/dental-licensure-by-state-map for details by state.

*PNWU cannot guarantee licensure of DACA students by state licensing boards; PNWU encourages all applicants with DACA status to communicate with the state where they plan to practice, to determine if they will be eligible to receive a license issued by that agency.
