Tax Savings Expiring!
A key stimulus package is set to expire on December 31. Here are a few last-minute ways you can make a difference at PNWU.
The universal charitable deduction is temporarily upgraded. The new deduction is $300 for single filers and $600 for married couples filing jointly. This is available to taxpayers who take the standard deduction. This tax incentive is available for cash gifts to qualified charities (but not to supporting organizations or donor-advised funds).
The cap on annual contributions for those who itemize increased from 60% to 100% of adjusted gross income for 2021. Any excess contributions available can be carried over to the next five years. (For corporations, the law raised the annual limit from 10% to 25% of taxable income.)

Checks:
Gifts made by check must be postmarked by Friday, December 31. Please write checks to “PNWU” and indicate which fund you are supporting on the memo line.
Credit Cards:
Gifts made by credit card can be made by calling our offices during listed business hours or made online before 5 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday, December 31, but please remember that the legal date of the gift for a credit card donation is the date the bank authorizes the charge.
Gifts of Securities:
Securities received by the PNWU’s brokerage account by Friday, December 31, will be eligible for a 2021 tax deduction. Securities transfers should be initiated by 12/20/2021 in advance of year-end. For more information, contact Lauri Roberson (509) 249-7874.
