PNWU Hires Founding Director of Doctor of Physical Therapy Program as Next Health Sciences Program Develops
Yakima, WA – After receiving regional accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities in January 2018, Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) has hired a Founding Director for a rapidly developing Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, adding additional graduate health care programs to the University’s ever-expanding Yakima campus.
Dr. Peggy Trueblood was selected to lead the groundbreaking new program following a comprehensive national search. With the addition of a Doctor of Physical Therapy program, PNWU aims to continue its mission of training and educating doctors emphasizing service in rural and underserved communities throughout the Pacific Northwest.
“I am very excited to join the faculty and administrators at PNWU and be a part of developing future physical therapy leaders in the Yakima Valley and beyond,” said Dr. Trueblood. “PNWU’s institutional values of collaboration, compassion, student focus, and healthy living resonate with my own values and passion. The emphasis on creating quality educational programs specifically for rural and medically underserved communities is a challenge that I embrace, and I look forward to working in the community and developing partnerships that will ensure our success”.
Dr. Trueblood is currently a professor and Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy at California State University, Fresno (Fresno State), where she is serving her 15th year as chair, leading the department through growth and maturation that includes development of the DPT program with a reputation of outstanding student outcomes. She has also played a significant role in expanding departmental research of both the faculty and students. She received her PhD in Physiological Sciences from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), has taught and conducted research in the area of neuroscience for over 30 years, and has a Masters in Kinesiology from UCLA and a Masters in Physical Therapy with a Specialty Certificate for Evaluation and Treatment of Neurological Disorders from the University of Southern California. She also holds a Specialty Certificate for Evaluation and Treatment of Vestibular Disorders. She has been a clinician since 1979 with an emphasis in neuro-rehab for balance and gait disorders.
