An Out of This World Experience: NASA Visits PNWU

On Tuesday, April 16, J.D. Polk, DO, the Chief Health and Medical Officer of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and Captains Mark and Scott Kelly, visited Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences to speak to the next generation of osteopathic physicians, offering a glimpse into the complex and fascinating world of space medicine.

Highlighting the importance of the whole-person approach to treatment and care of NASA's astronauts, Dr. Polk and the Kelly brothers brilliantly illustrated the importance of osteopathic medicine in space medicine. After all, there are few lifestyle and environmental factors as unique as orbiting 230 miles above the planet at over 17,000 MPH for nearly a full year.
