SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY

PNWU encourages basic science, clinical, and education research. Every effort will be undertaken by the Office of Scholarly Activity to encourage and assist students and faculty in the development, funding, implementation, and dissemination of the scholarly endeavor of interest.

Only students listed in good academic standing are permitted to participate in any scholarly activity outside of required course work such as, but not limited to: an active research study (human subjects, bench, etc.), preparation of research studies, external funding submissions, external funding notifications, research elective, global health elective, etc. Students in the following categories of academic standing such as, but not limited to, academic warning and probation are not permitted to be involved in any aspect of the research/scholarly activity spectrum outside of scholarly activity required for degree completion.

Human Subjects Research and IRB Review

Prior to initiating, or assisting with, research involving humans or their personal information (e.g., medical records), students must contact PNWU’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) Administrator to determine what requirements need to be met. This is true regardless of whether the research is conducted at PNWU or external sites (e.g., when on clinical rotation), and whether the research has yet to be initiated or already has another IRB’s approval.

For more information, see the Human Research Protection Program webpages of PNWU.edu or send a message to irb@pnwu.edu.
