PNWU Alumni Profile: Erika La Vella
As the first person in her family to enter into the medical field, and as a member of PNWU’s inaugural class, Dr. Erika La Vella was unsure of the direction her career would take. Her heart said “surgery,” but seemingly everyone around her discouraged that dream.
“You’ll be a horrible mother,” they warned, “a terrible wife; you’ll ruin your family.”

PNWU is a proud partner of Yakima’s Union Gospel Mission Medical Care Center. Established in 1995, the YUGM Medical Care Center is one of only a few clinics in the Yakima Valley devoted to caring for the primary medical needs of people experiencing financial restraints and homelessness.
