 DUTIES:

In this position, you will perform meaningful professional work in the field of Occupational Medicine. A typical day includes:

Responsible for accomplishment of a variety of physical examinations to assess the physical capabilities of a candidate in relation to job demands and/or discover physical infirmities present or incipient; examinations include: pre-employment physical exams, medical fitness for duty in current rate or proposed rate, medical surveillance and certification exams, disability retirement examinations.

  • Exercises clinical knowledge and skills to provide medical care to employees suffering from occupationally injury or disease as well as follow-up medical care and physical examinations.
  • Participates in the provision for limited medical services to employees for non-occupational conditions
  • Performs a wide variety of medical treatment procedures (e.g. emergency treatment in cases of serious illness or injury, life-saving emergency procedures to stabilize a patient sufficiently to transport to a hospital facility, etc.).
  • Assesses and records health status of patients, interprets results of diagnostic studies, and instructs and counsels patients.

REQUIREMENTS:

DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation

LICENSE: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

RESIDENCY: 3 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Occupational Medicine.

Call: There are no hospital rounds. There is a pediatric nurse call line, which handles the majority of calls, but the provider will still receive some calls that are elevated to the provider.

Approx 12-15 patients a day with the potential for 26 appointments (15-minute appointments). There are 6 same day acute appointment slots a day.

30-minute appointments are given for well child exams, new patients, and procedures.

California’s DSH psychiatrists are offered a wide range of monthly salaries starting at $18,879-$24,445 per month and earn up to $141 per hour through voluntary on-call duty. California state employees receive a comprehensive, competitive benefits and retirement package which includes several types of leave benefits. Staff may accrue 11-18 hours of annual leave per month based on length of state service and type of position. Call is compensated and usually not mandatory.
