Petr  Cigner MBBS

Assistant Professor of Family Medicine

Cigner – Bio 2023 (updated October 2023)

Dr Cigner obtained his undergraduate degree in Nutrition at the University of British Columbia, and then moved to Australia to study medicine, graduating from the University of Queensland in 2012.

Dr Cigner completed his pediatric residency in 2016 at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, OH, and then stayed on for an additional year to serve as Chief Resident. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics.

He then moved with his growing family to Yakima, to work as a general pediatrician with the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic, where he spent 6 years. During his time at the clinic, he was involved in teaching and mentoring medical students, Family Medicine and Pediatric residents at the bedside. He continues to enjoy clinical work and bedside teaching as a Pediatric Hospitalist at MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital.

Dr Cigner joined the Faculty at PNWU in 2023. He is delighted to be part of helping our current and future medical students develop their skills and passion for collaborative medical practice and lifelong learning. Dr Cigner is currently the course co-director for FM 601/2/3 (Art of Clinical Practice).

Dr Cigner’s interests include medical education, clinical reasoning, and the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and care delivered at the bedside. Although new to the field of AI, Dr Cigner is excited about the potential this new technology can have on delivering equitable care and on improving medical education.

He enjoys spending time with family, friends, the outdoors, reading and listening to podcasts, and is grateful to call the Pacific Northwest home.
