Ruth Bishop

Dr. Bishop graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in the inaugural class of 1982. Completing a rotating osteopathic internship in Flushing, New York, Dr. Bishop completed her first year of surgical residency at Baptist Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York and completed the program at Flint Osteopathic Hospital in Flint, Michigan. Relocating to Seattle, she practiced general surgery for eight years. Developing an interest in workman’s compensation medicine, Dr. Bishop earned a Master of Public Health in Occupational Medicine while practicing at Valley Medical Center Occupational Health in Auburn, Washington. She participated in the development of the state sponsored program Center of Occupational Health Excellence which has become a national model for the treatment of injured workers. During this period Dr. Bishop was appointed by the Governor of the State of Washington to serve on the Industrial Insurance Medical Advisory Committee.

Dr. Bishop has been a member of the Washington Osteopathic Medical Society and served as the President in 2005.Her most recent position was at Joint Base Lewis McChord where she served on the Medical Evaluation Board. Dr. Bishop is certified in Occupational Medicine by The American Board of Preventative Medicine.
