Student Core Didactic IPE Session: Collaborative Clinical Case Conferences (C4s)

Emphasizing Teams & Teamwork for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice

The Collaborative Clinical Case Conferences (C4s) provide students from diverse health professions with a unique opportunity to learn with, from, and about each other through a shared, collaborative experience. Designed for second-year or advanced students, these sessions focus on key interprofessional skills, including conducting a comprehensive case review, prioritizing a problem list, and developing a coordinated care plan for a complex patient.

Each session empowers interprofessional student teams to actively engage with a simulated patient, gather and integrate additional information, and involve the patient in shared decision-making.

C4s are intentionally structured to reinforce the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) core competencies—communication, values and ethics, and roles and responsibilities—with a strong emphasis on building effective teams and teamwork. Through these immersive, hands-on activities, students deepen their understanding of their own professional roles while cultivating a collaborative mindset that aligns with the principles of interprofessional practice.
