
Join us for a hands-on training event designed to equip health professions students with essential skills for safely transferring patients in a variety of care settings – while learning with and from peers from other health professions.
What to Expect:
- A brief lecture by Dr. Charles Martin covering the fundamentals of safe transfers, including body mechanics, base of support, center of gravity, and selecting appropriate techniques.
- Overview of transfer terminology and levels of assistance (e.g., Independent, Stand-by, Assisted, Minimal, Moderate, Maximum, Dependent).
- Introduction to assistive devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, quad canes, hemi-walkers, and hydraulic lifts.
- Guided practice of key transfer techniques, including:
- Bed-to-stretcher and bed-to-chair transfers
- Hydraulic lift use
- Standing and squat pivots
- Sliding board and sheet transfers
- Two-person and floor-to-chair lifts
