Annual PNWU Talent Show Promotes Comradery & Showcases Incredible Campus Community

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, students of all ages: Tune your instruments, smear on your mime makeup, pull your magic tricks from your white coat sleeves… it’s PNWU Talent Show time! The annual student-led event, scheduled to take place on Friday, Nov. 18, from 6:30-8 p.m. in BHH 301, aims to provide the campus with an amazing night of comradery, laughs and spectacular performances.

“All acts are welcome!” exclaimed Student Doctor Maggie Lai, OMS II. “Whether it’s a talent or more of a hobby for you, we want to see it! Based on all the amazing performances we’ve seen in the past, it just goes to show that everyone has a talent to share, and there’s no such thing as a ‘textbook’ talent.”

While the live performance aspect of the show can be nerve-wracking, admitted Lai – “anyone who has been called in a Dr. Elliot CIL can probably relate,” she joked – the opportunity to share your talent is well worth the rewards. Just last year, she explained, a brave second-year student took to the stage despite her nerves and delivered “the most incredible performance that brought joy not only to her heart, but to everyone who had the privilege of witnessing it.”

“If you’re thinking about sharing a talent, take a leap of faith,” Lai said. “YOLO, if you will, and don’t let fear or nerves keep you from participating.”

“Being at a professional school with intense workloads, we can quickly lose our spark with so much to do and so much to focus on,” Lai encouraged. “We put on the Talent Show & events like this to remind each other of our humanity and to celebrate and spotlight all the unique gifts and talents that are abundant in our community. We are all here for our united passion for medicine, and though our excellence in certain talents may vary, it is with this sentiment that we hope you will come out and participate on the stage or in the audience!”
