SAMOPS Club’s “The Hero Challenge” Supports Veterans, Promotes Health and Wellness

On Monday, August 31, PNWU’s Student Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (SAMOPS) club will launch The Hero Challenge. The five-week online fitness competition allows participants to safely compete against friends, family, and neighbors from the comfort and safety of their own homes. All proceeds from the event will support Team RWB, an organization which strives to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity.

“We hope everyone — regardless of age or fitness level — will get involved to help support this great organization,” said second-year PNWU medical student Austin Baumeister, ENS O-1, MC, USNR. “The challenges may seem scary, but so is medical school; so is COVID-19; so are the challenges facing our veterans. A fitness challenge may be a step outside of your comfort zone, but that’s where growth happens, especially in these hard times.”

This competition is open to everyone, regardless of a participant’s past experience with fitness. Workouts, which will highlight heroes who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, will be posted on the group’s website weekly and can be performed with limited to no fitness equipment.

Registration is free to everyone, with donations encouraged.
