EQUIPMENT, TECHNOLOGY AND SOFTWARE

Technology Services

Technology Services supports the University computing infrastructure and end user computing devices. The help desk office is located in Butler-Haney Hall 163 and is staffed from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The Help Desk provides students full support for PNWU services like Moodle and Outlook, but minimal assistance with personally owned devices like laptops and phones.

PNWU Email

PNWU issues email accounts to each new student prior to matriculation and it is retained for the alumni use after graduation. Students are expected to read, understand, and abide by the acceptable technology use policy.

Replacement of PNWU-Issued Equipment

Submit a written request for replacement of PNWU-issued equipment to Student Affairs. If replacement is approved, the student will be charged, and the equipment purchased. Once the cost is paid by the student, Purchasing will be notified to order the equipment.

Laptops

Students are required to have a laptop that meets the minimum hardware and software requirements detailed on the Technology Services webpage. Laptop purchases are the responsibility of each student. Financial aid is available to cover the purchase cost of a laptop once during the student’s educational program. Technology Services will provide limited software support and consulting for student owned computing devices, details of the support provided can be found on the Technology Services webpage.

Privacy Screen

when academic programs require a privacy screen, students are required to have one on their testing device (laptop and/or iPad) during assessments. The privacy screen must cover the entire screen and must block all peripheral views greater than approximately 30 degrees on either side of the student.

Printing Procedures

PNWU students attending classes on the PNWU campus are allocated $50 in printing credit at no charge, students attending clinical experience courses in hospitals, clinics, and private practices are allocated $24 in printing credit. Additional credit can be purchased online if needed.

Printing credit provided by Technology Services will expire at the end of each academic year and reset at the beginning of the next year. Any credit purchased by the student during the year will carry over to the next year.

Printing will be tracked and charged to your printing account.

  • $.05 per page for B&W prints (.03 per side for duplex)
  • $.15 per page for color prints (.09 per side for duplex)

Moodle – Learning Management System

Moodle is the learning management system used by PNWU for course items such as syllabus, gradebook management, schedule for courses, learning objectives, and lecture and lab materials. Additional usages include orientation, library, and student resources. The student and their advisor will use Moodle to monitor their course activity grades. All final grades are available on Self-Service.

Lecture Capture

Depending on the academic program and individual faculty member, most lectures are recorded and available in the Moodle based courses soon after. Student questions and/or comments may be recorded.

Students may watch recordings online or download them for off-line viewing on their personal devices. These recordings are for PNWU student viewing only and copyrighted by the University. Posting to another location is forbidden.

Audience Response System

PNWU provides access to classroom polling software in all learning spaces with no cost to students. Students are required to use their personal device (e.g., laptop, iPad, smart phones, etc.) to respond to polling questions.

Online Secure Assessment

PNWU-COM uses ExamSoft and its desktop and mobile secure testing application, Examplify, to administer the majority of classroom based summative assessments.

Student Software Purchase

Students may access Microsoft Store for PNWU and Technology Services webpage to access free and discounted software.

Student Onboarding System

Instructions are emailed to the incoming students as they are given access to the onboarding system (MyRecordTracker for MAMS, DMD, and DO, Exxat for DPT and MSOT). All records for immunizations, criminal background checks, and drug screenings will be uploaded by the student unless PNWU receives the reports directly from the screening vendor.

The PNWU designated health care professional will review the documents, communicate with the student as needed and update the status of immunizations.

PNWU Calendar

The PNWU Calendar system provides students the option to reserve group study rooms, view student and non-student events, view daily curriculum calendars, and provides links to event requests and making tutoring and recitation room requests.

PNWU Connect

The PNWU Connect system is an academic advising tool and portal for student announcements, forms, and information updates.

Self-Service

Self-Service provides students the ability to track missing documents, register for classes, review official grades, make payment, and track their degree requirements. The login uses your PNWU network account password and username (first part of your PNWU email, for example admission for email account admission@pnwu.edu).

The following functionality is available in Self-Service.

Registration

Under the Registration menu is the option to register for courses, course list, and degree requirement completion.

Courses

Click the Courses menu option to view and register for courses. All required courses for the academic program, provided that term, will be available in a block (group) of courses.

    1. Log into Self-Service
    2. Along the horizontal top menu, hover the cursor over Registration.
      1. Click on Courses from the drop down menu.
      2. If there is a hold on the account for missing documents, outstanding bill, etc. a stop sign and explanation will be visible. Contact registrar@pnwu.edu or 509.249.7994 with any questions.
    3. When the term is open for registration you will be able to search blocks of courses.
      1. The first time you register for the new academic year the annual agreement must be completed. Click the “Read Agreement” button to open a pop-up window. Review the agreement, use the hyperlinks to read additional documents and when ready click the “I Agree” check box and then click the “Save” button.
      2. Click your academic program name (Osteopathic Medicine, Dental Medicine, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Medical Sciences).
      3. The available blocks (groups) of coursees will be listed. Click the “Add Block” button of the group you want and the courses will be added to your cart.
    4. Once decided on a block of courses click “Register” button in your cart.
    5. The status of the block of courses will update to registered.
    6. If you want to drop courses please email registrar@pnwu.edu.

Schedule

The Schedule is a drop-down menu from the Registration top menu. It lists the student’s courses for the selected term. A daily course schedule will be available on the Moodle course page and on the PNWU Calendar. The Schedule in Self-Service will assist the student in determining which lab section to attend (01 = Group A, 02 = Group B for example) for Gross Anatomy, Scientific Foundations of Medicine, Family Medicine, and OPP.

Academic Plan

The Academic Plan is a drop down from the Registration top menu. The Academic Plan tracks the student’s progress in meeting degree requirements. Monitoring the Academic Plan becomes essential as the student nears the end of their education to timely completion of degree requirements.

Grade Report and Unofficial Transcript

Faculty members, or their designee, will post grades to the Registrar Office or the secured online portal, Self-Service. Students may access their grades within one week of the course end date. The Family Education Rights Privacy Act (FERPA) permits the posting of grades in a public manner only if the student is assigned a unique identifier known only to the student and the faculty member.

The official grade reports and unofficial transcript are found on the drop down menu of the Grades top menu.

    • Click Grade Report and Grade Period, and Self-Service will display the official grades and the student’s academic standing.
    • Click Unofficial Transcript to view all course, both in-progress and completed that you have been enrolled.

Stop List

A student with missing requirments or an unpaid financial obligabtion may have a stop on their account. Prior to the start of term and regularly therafter academic programs will receive notification of students with a stop list placed on their record.

Students with payment pending from the Veterans Administration are exempt from receiving a stop as long as they have:

    • Produced the certificate of eligibility by the first day of term
    • Provided a written request to be certified for veterans’ benefits
    • Provided any additional information needed to properly certify their enrollment

A stop item will result in the student not being able to register for the following term. All students must be registered in order to be eligible for financial aid or access to Moodle. Student not registered may not attend courses and will not be granted excused absences.

Finances

The Finances drop top menu allows student to access their account balance and statement, view their financial aid account, and view their 1098-T tax form.

Tuition

Tuition is reviewed by the PNWU Board of Trustees annually in the spring for the upcoming academic year. Tuition and Fees will be adjusted for students who submit the Program Cost Opt-Out form or are eligible for anatomy app purchase reimbursement.

Balance

Please pay your balance online in Self-Service.

    • There is no fee for paying with a bank account.
    • There is a 3.15 percent service charge for using your debit or credit card.
    • Students may grant access to a family member or other person to make payments on their account. See the Shared Access section below for details.

Steps to Make a Payment:

    1. Log into Self-Service using your PNWU username and password, single sign-on is activated
    2. Navigate to the “Finances” top menu
    3. Click on the “Balance” from the drop-down menu
    4. In the “Period” field select the current semester or All for and the “View” of what you want information you want to access (usually “Balance Summary”)
    5. In the “Payment Period” field select:
      1. the current term for charges currently due
      2. the future term if pre-paying a charge
    6. In the “Amount” field, enter a dollar figure, click “Make a Payment

A pop-up window will appear, click “Continue” to proceed to the payment website.

    • The Payment Amount will carry over from the amount you entered in Self-Service
    • Payment Method
      • New Card will require the entry of a debit or credit card and will apply a 3.15 percent service fee
      • New Bank Account will require the entry of account type, routing number, and account number
    • Click continue to finish the payment processing

Statement

The Statement drop down menu on the Finances top menu allows the student to view and print a student account statement as needed.

Financial Aid

The Financial Aid drop down menu on teh Finances top menu allows the student to monitor any missing documents, their estimated PNWU budget, awards, and anticipated disbursements. Use the Financial Aid portal to accept, decline, or decrease loan awards.

1098-T

The 1098-T drop down menu allows students to consent to receive their 1098-T tax form electronically. 1098-T forms are produced by the PNWU Finance Office, 200 University Parkway, IHL 201, Yakima WA 98901, 509.452.5100.

Instructions to give consent:

    • Select Consent Forms
    • Click on the 1098-T form, read the description and the terms and conditions
    • Select “I Accept” if consent is given to receive the form electronically
    • Click “Accept”

This consent to receive the 1098-T form electronically applies to every year after the consent is given until it is withdrawn. Students that do not consent by clicking the “I Accept” box or who withdraw consent before December 31 each year will receive a paper form in the mail at the address on record with PNWU. Please review your current address on your Profile in Self-Service.

Instructions to withdraw consent:

    • Log into Self-Service
    • Navigate to the Finances top menu, select 1098-T from the drop-down menu
    • Select Consent Forms
    • Click on the 1098-T form, read the description and the 1098-T form notice
    • Unselect the “I Accept” box to receive the form electronically
    • Click “Accept”

Withdrawal of consent does not apply to a form that was furnished electronically before the date on which the withdrawal of consent takes effect. If students would like to receive a paper form in addition to the electronic form, submit an email to ymartinez@pnwu.edu. A request for a paper form does not withdraw the consent to receive the form electronically.

Electronic 1098-T forms are provided in PDF format. Students must have an internet browser to access Self-Service and Adobe Reader in order access the form.

The 1098-T tax form is downloaded by navigating to the PDF Download hyperlink on the 1098-T page.

Checklist

The Checklist has any requirements or documents the student must complete. The Checklist should be monitored to ensure timely completion of requirements.

Profile

Hover over your name in the upper right corner of the Self-Service window to access your Profile. The Profile allows a student to find their student ID, PNWU email address, and update personal information.

Demographics

The student may provide gender identity and preferred pronouns.

Shared Access

Shared access allows students the ability to designate information they would like someone else to access in Self-Service, such as the ability to make payments, access grades, and access financial aid awards.

Complete the Consent for Third Party Access form and return it to registrar@pnwu.edu for processing. Once the person(s) designated on the form are setup the student will be notified and then may log into Self-Service, invite a user, and designate the access to be shared. The student may change the access or delete the access at any time.
