Assessing individual and community food practices and nutritional status using anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, dietary, and demographic data for clinical, research, and program planning purposes. Establishing priorities, goals, and objectives that meet nutritional needs and are consistent with available resources and constraints. Providing nutrition counseling and education as components of preventive, curative, and restorative health care. Developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating nutrition care systems. Evaluating, making changes in, and maintaining appropriate standards of quality in food and nutrition care services.

Hospital Team:

The team includes:

  • Clinician
  • Pharmacist
  • Dietician
  • Nutrition nurse specialist

The clinician determines the treatment and the form of needed nutrition. The clinician coordinates care with the patient’s primary healthcare team.

The pharmacist provides sterile parenteral nutrition. The pharmacists’ advice on the stability of the compound and any drug/nutrient interactions that may arise.

The dietician assesses the nutritional status of the patient, calculates the daily requirement, and designs the feeding regimen.

The nutrition nurse specialist supervises catheters and tube care. They are the patient’s advocate and trains the patient/caretaker to manage the tubes at home.

The extended staff includes social workers, occupational therapists, and wound management nurses.

The team works together to provide community-based healthcare delivery for patients referred to Registered Dieticians to improve outcomes of preventative medicine.
