Oral and maxillofacial pathology combines the specialties of dentistry and pathology. Dentistry includes the identification and management of diseases that affect the oral and maxillofacial regions of the body. Pathology is the process of using research and examinations (including clinical, radiographic, microscopic, biochemical, or other) to investigate, identify, and manage disease processes in patients.

Becoming an oral pathologist requires 3 years of advanced education. There are currently 14  Oral and Maxillofacial programs in the United States.
