Fitness/recreation areas available in the region:
In Spokane opportunities exist to participate in outdoor activities and sports year around. Downhill & cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice hockey, snowshoeing, ice skating, bicycling, fishing, boating, water-skiing, hiking, camping, and mountain climbing are all available in the immediate Spokane area. There are also 3 YMCA’s and numerous other affordable fitness centers in the city of Spokane.

Spokane has housing available in all different locations.

Preceptor/Rotation Information
The region will strive to schedule core rotations within 50 miles (one way) from where didactics are held or from the satellite locations (a location for clinical rotations associated with a regional site). If a core rotation occurs more than 50 miles from their assigned site, students may be eligible for a housing allowance and/or mileage stipend provided by PNWU.

Is there integration of other schools with PNWU students?
We have UW, WSU, Western COMP, Nursing, PA, and ARNP students. PNWU, UW, and WSU work together on a lot of the core rotations.

Opportunities to practice OMM:
Yes, but not all preceptors allow students to practice OMM. We are always actively trying to recruit new DO preceptors within our community to provide and teach more osteopathic principles to our students during their patient care activities.
Out-of-Region Expectations:
It is expected that a student may be required to rotate outside of their region for any unavailable core rotations.
Didactics Information
Centralized Didactics are held every Wednesday afternoon from 2 pm to 4 pm. Students will join the online PNWU Centralized Didactics for a professionalism hour, followed by a medical topic hour pertaining to their current rotation.
Regional didactics are held from 1 pm to 2 pm every Wednesday using a hybrid format. Time is spent as a PNWU group for the following: case presentations/student lectures, oral presentations, guest lecturers, and Board prep.
Other learning opportunities in addition to PNWU didactics include:
In addition, the students are invited to attend all of didactics available during their rotation with each residency.

Why might a student choose this region over another?
Spokane is a beautiful vibrant city with good weather, little traffic, and genuinely kind, gracious people. We have five residencies here (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Psychiatry, Transitional Year, and Radiology). There are eight hospitals in the greater Spokane area with attending physicians practicing all fields of medicine.
