Kirk Schulz is President Emeritus of Washington State University, where he served as President from 2016 to 2025. Prior to his appointment to WSU, he served as President at Kansas State University from 2009 – 2016. He also served in various senior leadership and faculty roles at Mississippi State University, Michigan Technological University, and the University of North Dakota. A Chemical Engineer by training, Kirk graduated with his B.S. (1986) and Ph.D. (1991) Degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). He serves on the boards for the Association for Washington Business (AWB) Institute and the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics. He is married to Noel Schulz, who serves as the Bob Ferguson Endowed Professor and Director of the WSU Institute for Advanced Energy Futures on the WSU Tri-Cities campus. Kirk and Noel reside in Richland, Washington.
