Faculty Evaluation Policy

Policy:  
Each academic program dean/director is responsible for ensuring faculty evaluations: 

  • Are equitable, fair, and consistently applied through clearly articulated procedures including faculty opportunity to appeal (a copy of any appeal must be provided to the provost)  
  • Address the core elements of teaching, service, and scholarship as necessary 
  • Occur on a regular basis in a cycle that aligns with budgetary and planning timelines, and in accordance with accreditation standards 
  • Support the appointment, reappointment, and promotion processes of the program and University 
  • Focus on faculty activities within the PNWU academic year (July 1 to June 30) 
  • Include assessment/input from self, peers, students, and supervisor(s); and review/approval by the appropriate academic leader(s)  
  • Are completed and submitted to HR following published timeline and using adopted software program 

Appeal procedures must, at a minimum, include:  

  • Opportunity to resolve informally prior to appeal 
  • To whom the appeal is made (e.g., title, address/email) 
  • Elements of the evaluation that may be appealed   
  • Allowable time in which to appeal, which may not be more than 20 business days from date of completed evaluation 
  • Time frame in which to receive a response to the appeal, which may not be more than 10 business days from date on the appeal letter 
  • Whether or not there is appeal process beyond initial—if so, describe the circumstance/criteria by which additional appeal may occur and use at least the same minimum items as detailed above 

Definitions:  
Completed evaluation is the date the supervisor signs and forwards the final evaluation to the employee.
