Learning Skills Specialist
Dr. Rica Amity is PNWU-COM’s Learning Skills Specialist. Dr. Amity works individually with students to address a broad range of learning needs and assists medical learners at all levels to achieve their true potential. Dr. Amity oversees the Tutoring and Recitation Programs, and collaborates closely with the Department for Student Affairs to advance student progress. Dr. Amity passionately supports PNWU’s mission to train health care professionals emphasizing service to rural and other medically underserved communities.
Dr. Amity brings to PNWU over 20 years of experience in education (teaching, counseling, advising, and course development for self-paced, competency-based, distance learning), outpatient counseling, human services, and advocacy. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling/Guidance & Counseling at Montana State University. She later returned to school and earned her Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies at Oregon State University.
